Nebraska Pain Initiative

The Nebraska Hospice and Palliative Care Association's vision is that No Nebraskan Lives in Pain or Dies Badly. Because people in pain have a right to timely, appropriate pain care and because 76.5 million Americans suffer from chronic pain, pain education is a significant part of the work of NHPCA, implemented through the Nebraska Pain Initiative. The Nebraska Pain Initiative is a network of organizations working to address pain issues including fears, education-related problems, difficulties of pain itself, and systems-related problems.

Nebraska's Pain Initiative is a part of the Alliance of State Pain Initiatives (ASPI), a group of state-based Pain Initiative organizations that work to remove the barriers that impede pain relief through education, advocacy and institutional improvement.

In addition, the Nebraska Hospice and Palliative Care Association serves as a state leader for the American Pain Foundation Power Over Pain Action Network to initiate and support efforts to inform, motivate and harness the millions of voices of people affected by pain, in order to raise awareness and promote the best pain policy, legislation and practice.

Activities of the Nebraska Pain Initiative include Pain Awareness Month activities in September and the Pain Education Tour. The Annual Pain Tour takes the pain management expertise of physicians and pharmacists to professionals in several cities across the state.  In addition, civic, church and veteran organizations can request a speaker on the topic of pain from NHPCA's Speakers Bureau.
